Demi Semi Quaver plays a mix of avant-garde, punk, funk, and noise, topped off with the spattering vocal eruptions of unforgettable frontwoman and "female drag queen" Emi Eleonola.  Their prog inclinations invite comparison with Happy Family and Bondage Fruit, but their sound is ultimately more varied, detouring at times into accordion-led romps and manic funk.  The band has worked with everybody on the who's who list of Japanese progressive music, including producer Hoppy Kamiyama, and has built up a following both at home and abroad.  Although most of the members work on side projects and are well-known in the Japan music scene, Eleonola remains the most visible member of the band due to her striking visual appeal and work as an author, emcee, narrator, songwriter, and musical collaborator.  In addition, she has acted in several indie films including Maruhi no hana (directed by Masatoshi Akihara), Tokyo Zansu (directed by Naoko Nozawa), and the mind-blowing I.K.U. (directed by Shu Lea Cheang).
